About PAT Rights

What PAT Rights Is

PAT Rights is an independent informational website built around one goal: explaining US intellectual property in a way that actually makes sense. Patents, trademarks, and copyright touch a lot of people’s lives inventors, small business owners, artists, writers, students but the official language around them is often dense and hard to work through. PAT Rights breaks that information down into clear, readable content.

We are not a law firm, and we are not affiliated with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the U.S. Copyright Office, or any other government agency. PAT Rights is a privately run website that exists to help people understand IP concepts on their own terms.

Why PAT Rights Was Created

PAT Rights was started by Adnan Khan out of a simple observation: when people search for basic answers about patents, trademarks, or copyright, they usually end up on official government pages full of legal terminology, or on scattered forum posts that may or may not be accurate. There wasn’t an easy middle ground a place to get a straightforward, well-organized explanation before digging into the official process or deciding whether to consult a professional.

PAT Rights was built to be that middle ground.

What Topics We Cover

The site is organized around the core areas of US intellectual property, including:

  • Patents : what they protect, the general application process, and common terminology
  • Trademarks : registration basics, how trademark searches work, and what trademarks do and don’t cover
  • Copyright : how copyright protection works, what qualifies for protection, and common misconceptions
  • General IP concepts : the differences between patents, trademarks, and copyright, and how they fit together
  • Related US IP topics : practical questions people run into as they research their options

New content is added over time as we identify topics readers are actually asking about.

Who PAT Rights Is For

PAT Rights is written for people who want to understand intellectual property before or instead of wading through official documentation on their own. That includes:

  • First-time inventors trying to understand what a patent actually covers
  • Small business owners looking into trademarking a name or logo
  • Writers, artists, and creators wanting to understand their copyright protections
  • Students and researchers looking for a clear overview of IP concepts
  • Anyone who’s simply curious about how patents, trademarks, and copyright work in the United States

You don’t need any prior background in law or IP to use this site. Everything is written with a general reader in mind.

Our Approach to Accuracy and Research

Every article on PAT Rights is researched using publicly available information, including official government resources such as USPTO and U.S. Copyright Office materials. Our goal is to present that information clearly and accurately, without adding unnecessary jargon or oversimplifying it to the point of being misleading.

Laws, fees, and procedures related to intellectual property can change, and official sources are always the final word on current requirements. Where it’s useful, we link out to those official resources so readers can verify details or go straight to the source.

Why You Can Use PAT Rights as an Educational Resource

PAT Rights exists to help you understand the basics what a patent is, how trademark protection works, what copyright does and doesn’t cover so that you’re better informed before making decisions or seeking professional help. Think of it as a starting point: a place to build a working understanding of IP concepts before you file anything, hire anyone, or dive into official paperwork.

What PAT Rights Does Not Provide
